Community Event Recap
50 Children Reached | 25 Registered Attendees | 1 Superhero. One Big Night.
On Saturday, March 21st, Malons Project brought our Mal Defender Club members and Value Peers to Norfolk Scope Arena for a night of hockey, community, and celebration. The energy in that building was electric from the moment we arrived at Will Call — and it only grew from there.
The children arrived to find Mal Defender t-shirts waiting for them — and the excitement on their faces said everything. Refreshments kept the energy high throughout the game, and families cheered together in a way that reminded everyone in attendance exactly why events like this matter.
"This is the kind of experience that reminds our youth that they belong, that they are celebrated, and that there are people in this community who believe in them."
Then there was Mal Defender himself. Our superhero mascot — the first superhero created specifically for teens and youth with ADHD — was in full form all evening. He moved through the arena engaging with children, posing for photographs, and signing autographs for dozens of excited young fans.
Every child who took a photo with Mal Defender received a Malons Project branded water bottle to take home. He took pictures with 50 children that night — meaning 50 families walked out of Norfolk Scope Arena with our mission in their hands. That is not just a giveaway. That is community outreach at its most personal.
The evening was about far more than the game. Throughout the arena, our team distributed brochures about the Mal Defender Club and ADHD awareness — helping families understand what ADHD really looks like and how Malons Project is empowering children to embrace their superpowers rather than be defined by their diagnosis.
The response from families was heartwarming. Parents stopped to talk. Children asked questions. And Mal Defender — our superhero who exists precisely because ADHD is a superpower, not a weakness — was right there to show them what that looks like in real life.
Mal Defender is not just a mascot. He is a message. A message that every child who thinks and feels differently has a place where they are seen, celebrated, and supported.
Events like this do not happen without the generosity of our sponsors and the commitment of our community partners. Your investment made it possible for 25 families to experience a night they will not forget — and for 50 children to meet a superhero who looks just like them.
More photos from the evening are coming soon. Stay connected with Malons Project for updates on our summer events and programs.
