Wanda A. Gurley

Treasurer | Director of Sales

I am Wanda A. Gurley (formerly Williams), proud to serve as Treasurer and Director of Sales for Malons Project. As a member of the Executive Board, I provide strategic planning, project oversight, and support the overall operations of the organization. I work closely with the Board of Directors on fundraising, public events, and budgeting, while also developing my skills in grant writing and collaborating with our Director of Programs to secure government contracts through SAM.gov.

Every decision I make is guided by one simple question: What would Malon want?

Malons Project was birthed from the tragic loss of my great-nephew, Malon, who was taken from us in August 2020 at the age of 17. He dreamed of creating a safe, supportive space for at-risk youth. Today, alongside his grandmother, my oldest sister JoAnne Cramatie, we are committed to bringing that vision to life.

Our programs are designed to support neurodivergent youth, particularly those with ADD and ADHD, by shifting them from criminality to creativity. Current and developing programs include chess lessons that lead to competitive tournaments, STEM enrichment, creative writing, and gardening. As we grow, we plan to introduce swimming and tennis programs to further promote discipline, wellness, and confidence.

A central part of our long-term vision is the development of a transitional housing community for youth. This initiative will consist of a tiny home community designed to provide a safe, structured, and supportive environment for at-risk youth as they transition into independent living. The goal is to equip them with life skills, stability, and opportunities that empower them to succeed beyond their circumstances.

In addition to my work with Malons Project, I am the Founder of Firm Foundation, LLC, where I guide individuals through the process of starting nonprofit organizations—from idea to execution—helping them build on a strong and sustainable foundation.

I retired from the Commonwealth of Virginia after 33 years of dedicated service, working with the Department of Motor Vehicles, Child Support Enforcement, and Eastern State Hospital. My career reflects a lifelong commitment to service, structure, and community impact.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy attending church, playing tennis, riding my bike, and traveling.
